Labor Forum: Introduction
To the Greater Deep Springs Community
There are two documents attached below, both of which the Labor Committee spent the spring months of 2009 drafting and editing. The first is a short attempt, the latter, an expanded one, to articulate the ends of the labor program. The short version has essentially the same content as the long version, but is succinct enough to be useful for any exchanges about the labor program with the outside world, whereas the long version will be more useful to us in our own discussions about the labor program.
The Ends of the Labor Program: Short Version
The Ends of the Labor Program: Long Version
The committee would like to hear feedback from you, alumni and friends of Deep Springs, on how well these values and goals describe the labor program, not only as it has been and is now, but as it should be. In addition, it would be useful to hear some ideas of how these goals should be implemented, considering everything from an annual program review to operational planning. Take this opportunity to give us advice on these documents and this process, but, more generally, to discuss the labor program with fellow Deep Springers, to reconnect with old friends and enemies, and recommence doing what we all most love to do: talking about Deep Springs, how it was, is, and should be.

Summer 2009 Update
We appreciate the feedback and comments we've received on the forum. With the turnover of a new student body at Deep Springs, the Labor Committee has shifted out of an active phase on the particular subject of the labor program at Deep Springs. We will continue to maintain an archive of the postings but we are discontinuing the interactive forum and registration for the time being. If, upon reading through the postings, you would like to add your own comment, please just email us with your posting and we will see that it gets added to the discussion archive. At a future date, we anticipate reopening the forum to discuss more of the fundamental pillars in a Deep Springs education.
