Thanksgiving at Deep Springs

This Thanksgiving, Deep Springs hosted some 50 family members of students, staff, and faculty. Edward Pimentel DS10 chaired TurkeyCom, which worked tirelessly to ensure an enjoyable weekend for all. Besides the excellent dinner, the weekend featured the traditional Turkey Bowl; hikes around the valley; and a DSPAC (Deep Springs Performing Arts Committee).

Main Room Thanksgiving

Our cooks Edward Pimentel and Matt Stolz DS10 prepared the delicious Thanksgiving dinner, along with staff cook Jonathan DeWeese DS07, and many helpful parents, siblings, community members, and students. The Mitchell family decorated the main room, which hosted around 100 people. The spread was impressive, from potatoes to pies and cranberry sauce to cider.

Turkey Bowl

A simmering rivalry between the north and south wings of the dorm provided the teams for this year's Turkey Bowl. Andrew Crawford DS10 organized the game, which took place on an alfalfa field demarcated by gopher traps. South dorm proved its football prowess, winning 21-7.

Skateboard

The Saturday evening DSPAC featured a wide variety of performances and revealed many talents, from the Deep Springs Men's Choir to a country medley to slam poetry to dancing. Here Skateboard -- a punk band consisting of Nick Marino DS11 (left), Matt Marsico DS11 (right), and Brendan Bashin-Sullivan DS10 (not pictured) -- performs under the watchful eye of L.L. Nunn.

This Thanksgiving gave us much to be thankful for: a strong community, time with family, and delicious food.
